Set amidst the backdrop of Hollywood,
Through The Cracks is a graphic documentary directed by Mark A Ryan and produced by Flow-Films. The film follows the drug-infused life of a young homeless man called Todd Watts. Featuring interviews with his family and close friends, the documentary takes the viewer on a journey exploring the realities of Todd's condition. The deeply touching love-hate relationship he has with his mother and the palpable guilt she conveys generate empathy for his situation. The documentary's most powerful scene features a naked female named ‘Sparkles’ injecting heroin into her neck. Saliva drips from her mouth while she sways back and forth in a harrowing scene which takes the audience directly to the core of drug use. “Would you fuck her?” someone asks. The film is dedicated to her short life. The contradictions of this documentary are hard to ignore. The documentary breaks down the illusionary myths that are churned up through Hollywood's affluent movie star reputation and boldy informs its audience: THIS IS THE REAL HOLLYWOOD.
